7 new cases of COVID-19 in London area Thursday, no deaths

The health unit has reported seven additional confirmations for the delta variant of concern in the region. There are now 32 cases of the delta variant since the end of May.

The MLHU recorded a recovery on Thursday, with 59 active cases in Middlesex-London.

The seven-day moving average for the number of daily cases is seven.

The London Health Sciences Center says it is treating 11 patients for COVID-related illnesses, including fewer than five in intensive care.

There are less than five staff members who have tested positive for the virus and are isolating themselves.

Health unit launches additional pop-up vaccination clinics

Starting Thursday, the health unit announced a series of walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics that will be available over the next five weeks. The clinics are for those looking for a first or second dose and no appointment is necessary to attend.

The next clinic will be on Tuesday July 13 at Lord Elgin Public School in the Highbury Avenue and Cheapside Street area. A full list of upcoming clinics is available here.

Appointments can be made at mass immunization clinics online at covidvaccinelm.ca with new time slots available every day at 8 a.m. or by calling 226-289-3560 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday to Sunday.

COVID-19 in the region and beyond

Southwestern Public Health reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and no deaths. There are 16 ongoing cases in Elgin-Oxford.

There have been four additional cases reported by Huron Perth Public Health and no deaths. The health region has 15 active cases.

Meanwhile, Ontario reported 210 more COVID-19 infections and four deaths on Thursday.

There are 1,816 active cases in the province, according to the Department of Health. Patients in intensive care units totaled 215, including 145 who need a ventilator to breathe.
