LA County Reports 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases – NBC Los Angeles

Los Angeles County reported 1,113 new cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths on Sunday – the third day in a row that more than 1,000 new cases have been reported. Officials said the number of cases and deaths is likely to reflect the reporting delays over the weekend.

The number of people hospitalized in Los Angeles County with the virus has increased from 373 to 372, according to state figures. On Sunday, 82 people were in intensive care, against 79 the day before.

Of the 1,094 new cases of COVID-19 reported by the county health department that day, 83% were in people under the age of 50 with the highest number of new cases among residents aged 18 to 49 , with 70% of new cases.

“As cases increase, the urgency to vaccinate more people increases. Almost 100% of new cases occur among those who are not fully vaccinated, ” county public health director Barbara Ferrer said.

“All of our COVID-19 vaccines are very effective in protecting you from serious illnesses of COVID-19 and variants of concern like the Delta variant.
