Ontario reported 146 more cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and the deaths of seven more people with the disease.
Here are some other indicators and key figures of the pandemic of Daily provincial update from the Ministry of Health:
Seven-day average of daily cases: 170
Completed tests: 17 489
Province-wide test positivity rate: 0.8 percent, the lowest on a Tuesday since September 1, 2020
Active cases: 1 548
Intensive care patients with COVID-related illnesses: 192; 123 needed a ventilator to breathe
Total number of deaths: 9 258
Vaccination: 176,834, which is significantly down from recent Mondays. About 89 percent were second doses. Over 79 percent of adults in Ontario have now received at least one shot of the vaccine.
Waterloo goes to stage 3 with the rest of the province
An area of Ontario that has delayed its reopening due to an increase in Delta COVID-19 variant cases will lift restrictions with the rest of the province this week.
Waterloo region says it will join other public health units to move to step 3 of the plan to reopen Ontario at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
The changes will allow indoor dining halls and gymnasiums to reopen, as well as expand crowd limits at social gatherings and other events.
The region has delayed entering the second stage of the reopening plan, which has allowed hair salons and other venues to open, due to the spike in cases.
But the region’s top doctor said on Tuesday that public health indicators have stabilized and vaccination rates have risen rapidly.
Dr Hsiu-Li Wang also encouraged residents to receive their second dose of vaccine and continue to follow public health orders, as the Delta variant remains a threat.
