Hamilton Public Health has revealed August closure dates for its three large-scale mass COVID-19 vaccination clinics and will contact people with appointments made after a closure.

In a statement on Wednesday, the city announced that the Hamilton Health Sciences Clinic in Wellington will close on August 3, St Joseph’s Clinic in West 5th on August 17, and the FirstOntario Center on August 29.

“As the number of people remaining to be vaccinated decreases and the way they wish to be vaccinated changes, Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccination program will begin a cautious and measured closure of large-scale mass vaccination clinics,” said public health. in its output.

Hamilton’s medical officer of health in a weekly update in June mentioned the end and shift to another phase of the city’s vaccination initiatives that would involve a transition to smaller clinics, mobile pop-up clinics and opportunities with over 100 pharmacies offering shots.

“As our immunization program enters a new phase, our work is far from over,” said Dr Elizabeth Richardson.

“With only six weeks until September and the start of the school year, our vaccination efforts remain more critical than ever.”

Primary care centers at David Braley Health Sciences Center and Winterberry Family Medicine will also be options.

The city says it will text and email those who have a reservation after a clinic’s closing date.

“People who have appointments made after a clinic closing date are encouraged to reschedule their appointment or go to a local clinic offering walk-in visits 28 days after their first dose to get it. fully vaccinate against COVID-19 as soon as possible, ”Public Health said in a statement.

As of Tuesday, more than 696,000 doses of the vaccine were administered in Hamilton, with 76% of the population aged 18 and over having received at least a single dose, while about 61.5% were fully immunized.

Just over 75 percent of people aged 12 and older received an injection and 59.8 percent were fully immunized.

Hamilton moved to Stage 3 of Ontario’s plan to reopen on Friday and will remain in the designation for at least 21 days until 80% of the eligible population aged 12 and over have received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ford government expects the province to begin an overall adult immunization rate of 75 percent with second doses in August, with no public health unit having less than 70 percent of its eligible residents fully vaccinated.

More than 64% of people under 30 in Hamilton received at least one shot of the vaccine, while almost 42% received a second dose as of July 20.

About 64% of young people aged 12 to 17 have received at least one injection of the COVID vaccine, according to public health data.

As of Monday, more than 18.4 million total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ontario.

Over eight million second doses have been administered in the province, representing over 64% of the adult population (18 years and over). Coverage for the first dose in adults is 80%.
