LAHORE: PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Sunday took a jib at Prime Minister Imran Khan by sharing an old statement he had shared about former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

On Twitter, Maryam shared a statement issued by Prime Minister Imran Khan back in 2014, when the then Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, had been taken to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

“The country is being destroyed, but Nawaz Sharif has gone to perform Umrah,” Imran Khan had said at the time he was part of the opposition.

In response to the statement, Maryam said that when her father was taken to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the country was “neither subject to destruction nor attended any of the wedding functions at the expense of the government.”

Maryam’s statement came as the opposition on Friday launched an anti-inflation campaign against the PTI-led government. During the campaign, opposition parties are holding protests and rallies across the country to protest what they call “the worst inflation in the country’s history”.

PML-N Vice President also criticized Prime Minister Imran Khan when his stepdaughter — the second daughter of Bushra bibi — had her nikkah ceremony performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah recently.

According to family sources, the daughter of the first lady married Muhammad Sheikh, son of a Pakistani businessman, on the 12th in Rabi-ul-Awal in Masjid-e-Nabawi.

The ceremony was attended by close family members and friends, while the couple also performed Umrah after marriage. Family sources further said the wedding reception will take place in the second week of November in Lahore.
