Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday reiterated his call for immediate action to avert a humanitarian crisis in war-torn Afghanistan.
The prime minister’s remarks came as he addressed Foreign Ministry (MoFA) officials in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Imran congratulated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for conducting the 17th extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) last Sunday.
“Pakistan’s image has improved significantly internationally over the last three years,” he said. “Now the OIC and the international community have recognized Pakistan’s narrative.”

He further added that whether or not one likes the Taliban’s progress in Afghanistan, the world should focus on the difficulties faced by the 40 million people in Afghanistan.
“Pakistan can become a great country by focusing on self-confidence,” the prime minister said. “We need to correct our system, uphold meritocracy and ensure the rule of law in order to bring Pakistan on the path of development and progress.”
The Prime Minister also called on officials in the ministry to shift their focus from geopolitics to geoeconomics.
In the past, the successful host of the 17th extraordinary session of the OIC’s Foreign Affairs Council on Afghanistan has garnered worldwide applause to Pakistan to make the global community aware of the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation in the war-torn country.
Convened by Saudi Arabia as OIC chairman and hosted by Pakistan with 20 foreign ministers, 10 deputy FMs and 437 delegates present, the session decided to establish a Humanitarian Trust Fund under the Islamic Development Bank and enter into discussions with UN agencies on actions for to free up financial and banking channels for the flow of liquidity and assistance.
