New arrest warrant issued for former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan

[ad_1]

The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for former prime minister Imran Khan, Geo news reported, the latest in a series of legal hurdles facing the cricketer-turned-politician.

Khan was arrested by Pakistani authorities in May in connection with a corruption case that sparked deadly unrest across the country.

He was released on bail within days. It was not immediately clear which charge the Electoral Commission’s ruling related to, and whether the police would act on the ruling.

Geo did not state his source. Khan has faced a host of charges in various institutions and courts since his ouster, including graft, murder and sedition.

The latest in the series of cases came last week when Pakistan’s interior minister said the government would initiate criminal proceedings against Khan on charges of revealing official secrets relating to diplomatic correspondence between Washington and Islamabad.
