TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced in his latest Instagram post on Thursday that construction of national strategic projects will continue, even though we are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the caption of his post, some of the projects he mentioned are structures padot which will be completed this month in Lampung, East Java, South Sulawesi and West Java.
Referring to records from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), the four dams under construction are considered national strategic projects, as mentioned in Presidential Decree No. 109/2020, which provide irrigation water to local farmers, flood management.
The first dam is located in Lampung Province, the Wey Sekampung Dam, which holds up to 68 million cubic meters of water, designed to irrigate 72,707 hectares of irrigation land and 17,334 hectares of Rubia further irrigation areas.
The second and third dams are the Bendo Dam in Ponorogo, East Java, and the Paselloreng Dam in the Wajo Regency area of South Suawes. Both are designed to expand irrigation services to up to 7,800 acres, while the latter can hold 138 million cubic meters of water.
The fourth dam is located in the Regency area of West Java, which is designed to accommodate 25.9 million cubic meters of water and supply 3,000 acres of land in the northern parts of West Java.
In addition, President Jokowi said padot help Indonesia achieve water and national food sustainability, but also noted that they have the potential to become hydropower plants.
