Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that throughout 2021, the Indonesian people will struggle with two major challenges, namely cutting the virus chain and maintaining the economy.

The president said the pandemic and the economy are like two bodies at a swing away that need to be kept in balance. He said the pandemic has slowed so far.

“Hospitals are now more flexible in treating patients with non-Covid diseases. All of this is due to our role in adhering to health practices and enhancing vaccinations,” he explained.

The head of state stressed that out of the 208 million vaccination target, Indonesia had injected about 273 million vaccine doses on December 30, of which 160 million were first vaccines and more than 113 million complete vaccine doses.

At the same time, the president said there is an economy at the other end of the swing.

Indonesia had experienced a recession, minus growth, an economic slowdown in many sectors and great uncertainty in almost all sectors. However, the Indonesians survived with passion and hard work.

“Indonesia’s economy grew 3.51 percent in the second quarter of 2021. On the other hand, the pandemic has worked a new world: digital civilization. For example, e-commerce has reached $ 24.8 billion this year,” he explained.

The President also pointed out that, from 1 December 2021 until next year, Indonesia would hold the presidency of the G20, a group of 19 countries and the European Union, which together accounted for around 60% of the world’s population and 80% of the world’s population. and 75 percent of total world trade.

The head of state said that Indonesia’s G20 presidency is an honor and an opportunity for Indonesia to play a greater and more decisive role in global economic recovery, healthier, fairer and more sustainable world governance.
