President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, returned to inspect economic activity after Indonesia’s restrictive policy on community activities (PPKM) was dismantled. This time, Jokowi visited the Kota Kasablanka (Kokas) mall or mall in Jakarta on the evening of Thursday 12 January 2023.
Based on the press release of the Presidential Secretariat, Jokowi arrived in Kokas at around 19:20 WIB. There, Jokowi toured the shopping center while looking at the products on display in the shop window.
Passing a local brand shop from Bandung, West Java, Eiger, Jokowi seemed interested in the products on display. He then bought a black vest and several other items.
“He comes here to shop at our store. He also spends quite a lot. There are jackets, sweaters, hats and bags, things like that,” said one of Kokas Eiger’s staff, Ogi.
Ogi also admitted that he was surprised by the presence of Jokowi, who stopped by that evening to buy several products there. According to Ogi, his store’s merchandise sales have gradually returned to normal after the cancellation of the PPKM policy.
“Oh, it’s really, really far, really far (the sale). Back then PPKM was really quiet, after PPKM was repealed it was really busy, back to normal,” he explained.
In addition, Ogi hopes that buying and selling activities in shopping centers can return to the way they were before the pandemic.
If possible, it will indeed be reopened as before because it means a lot to us because our prosperity comes from sales,” Ogi said.
