Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited two DKI Jakarta markets, Rawamangun Market and Johar Baru Market, on Wednesday (05/04/2023). The President’s visit to these two markets is to check availability and prices of basic commodities ahead of 2023 Eid.

“It’s coming up to Lebaran. The trade minister and I want to check the first is the stock, then the second is the price,” the president said after the review.

The president revealed that there were no problems with getting food in the markets he visited. In fact, the prices of several commodities have fallen.

“Prices have also gone down a lot. Eggs went down, chicken went down, chicken meat went down, rice also went down, then onions went down too, the only thing that went up was meat,” the president said.

According to the president, the decrease was in line with the monitoring of the Statistics Finland (BPS), which recorded deflation.

“According to the BPS monitoring, there was indeed deflation. This is good if you could go to Eid, but prices are going down. That’s what I see,” he said.

The president also hopes that the price reduction will increase people’s purchasing power.

“Obviously prices have come down a lot. Here’s the good. So it’s strengthening people’s purchasing power because the price is coming down,” he said.

At that time, the president also handed over direct cash assistance (BLT) to market traders. The President was accompanied by Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan and Plt. DKI Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono. (TGH/UN)
