JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo and Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo arrived in Hiroshima, Japan on Friday (May 19, 2023) after traveling about six hours from Indonesia.
According to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat, the Indonesian-1 Presidential plane carrying the President and a limited delegation arrived at Hiroshima International Airport at approximately 5:45 PM local time.
The arrival of the President and Mrs. Iriana was welcomed by Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Kenji Yamada, Japanese Chief of State Protocol Takehiro Shimada, Hiroshima Prefectural Assembly Chairman Takashi Nakamoto, Hiroshima City Council Chairman Tatsunori Motani, Republic of Indonesia Ambassador to Japan Heri Ahhmadi and wife, and Col (AF) of Indonesian Defense Assistance at the Embassy in Tokyo Andi Nur Abadi and wife.
President Jokowi and Ibu Iriana went straight to the hotel where they were staying in Hiroshima.
On Saturday (May 20, 2023), the President will participate in the G7 Summit with partner countries or the G7 Outreach Summit in 2023.
President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana welcomed to the hotel where they were staying several ministers of the successor government of Indonesia who had already visited Hiroshima.
They include Coordinating Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Osaka Consul General Diana Sutikno and her husband, and Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo DCM John Boestami.

The president said that Indonesia wanted to participate in these areas.
“Indonesia brings voices from the global south, where developing countries need to be listened to, not just developed countries and big countries,” Jokowi said during a briefing at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta before departing for Hiroshima on Friday morning. .
“So developing countries need to be heard in this forum. That’s roughly what we hope for,” he said.

Jokowi arrived in Hiroshima at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who is currently chairing the G7 summit.
Indonesia and many other developing countries will participate in the G7 summit with partner countries or the G7 summit in 2023.
In addition to attending the G7 summit, President Jokowi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several state leaders.
The president will also meet with several major Japanese businessmen in the form of a business forum.
The President is scheduled to return to Indonesia on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
