CE holds talks with Indonesia’s Joko Widodo

CEO John Lee met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and other officials in Jakarta on Tuesday as he seeks to strengthen SAR connectivity with Indonesia and other ASEAN countries.

Lee began the second leg of his Asean tour in the Indonesian capital on Tuesday.

He expressed his hope for strengthening cooperation with the country in the fields of trade, investment, finance, innovation and technology, as well as culture and tourism, after meeting Widodo on Tuesday morning.

The Indonesian leader wrote on social media that he had discussed three issues with the CE – investment, trade and the protection of his country’s citizens in Hong Kong.

Lee also met Charge d’Affaires and Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia Zhou Kan and thanked him for promoting the interests of Hong Kong to local businesses.

The Hong Kong leader also held talks with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn to express his gratitude to ASEAN member countries for supporting the SAR’s bid to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) free trade agreement.

Lee will continue his visit to Jakarta on Wednesday before heading to Malaysia and the final stop of his trip in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
