On Monday, the Ministry of Communications and Information submitted to the State Secretariat a draft presidential decree on media sustainability for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to consider and sign.
According to the ministry, the planned regulation would require digital platforms, including Google and Meta, to prioritize news from media outlets approved by the Press Council and to remove from their search engines and other features news that do not comply with press law or journalistic ethics.
“Yeah, [both of those obligations] are involved. We tabled the bill this afternoon,” the ministry’s information and communications manager Usman Kansong said. Jakarta Post on Monday.
