A sandstorm in Millard County caused an I-15 crash Sunday that left at least seven dead and several injured, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
The Utah Highway Patrol said in a press release that at least 20 vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred between Fillmore and Canoch at around 5 p.m. and closed both directions of the highway. High winds in the area caused dust and storm surges, limiting drivers’ visibility.
Several people were taken to area hospitals in critical condition by ground and air ambulances.
I-15 heading north has partially reopened, but I-15 heading south will remain closed for several hours. UHP suggests motorists heading south at Meadow, exit 358, and take State Route 133 before re-entering the highway at Kanosh.
Drivers on the southbound I-15 will need to take an alternate route after 20 vehicles crashed on the I-15 in Millard County on July 25, 2021.
