Researchers spent several weeks relentlessly searching the remains of the 13-storey steel-and-concrete building in search of survivors, long after they gave up hope. But after rescuing a 15-year-old boy, Jonah Handler, and finding his mother, Stacey Fang, who had died in hospital, just hours after collapsing 32 days earlier, researchers found no one else alive among the wreckage.

The search and rescue effort officially ended on July 7, but officials pledged that the rescue operation would not stop until all the debris had been searched and the bodies of each victim had been found.

The discovery of Mrs. Hedaya’s remains ends a long and agonizing wait for her family and friends that followed as every other victim was identified within a month of the collapse. Ike, Hidaya’s younger brother, traveled to Florida twice, provided a DNA sample and prayed near the site.

“Your first reaction is shock and disbelief, then you cry until you can’t stop, then accept what you can’t change,” Linda Hedaya, the mother of Mrs.

Her brother said that Estelle Hedaya moved to Florida from New York to start a new chapter, and many in her life were looking for success. She lost weight, bought a new red car and focused on her spirituality.

It was her mother’s wish that her daughter be found so she could have a proper burial.

“We have no choice but to continue, but I want to give her the respect she deserves,” Linda Hedaya said. “She was my eldest son. I called her my shining star.”

Ms Levine Cava said that, including the 98 victims, county officials eventually identified 242 people who were likely identified inside the South Champlain Towers at the time of the collapse.
