The Corona Police Department reported that officers responded to a call to duty at approximately 11:45 p.m. at the Regal Edwards Corona Crossings RPX Theater in the city of Riverside County.

Upon arrival, officers found a male and a female both with gunshot wounds. The 19-year-old, from Corona, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 18-year-old, also a resident of Corona, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Their identity is withheld pending notification of next of kin.

According to multiple sources citing police, the movie shown was Blumhouse/Universal’s The Forever Purge, whose title refers to a night when all crimes, including murder, are temporarily legal.

A Regal spokesperson released the following statement up to the deadline: “We have received confirmation of an incident at the Corona Crossings Theater last night. We are currently working with local authorities regarding the investigation. Our primary concern is the safety and security of our guests and staff.”

The Regal Edwards Corona Crossings RPX Theater is located at 2650 Tuscany Street in Corona, about 50 km southeast of Los Angeles. The theater was closed on Tuesday, and it looks like The Forever Purge isn’t showing there anymore.

The Corona Police Department is taking the lead in the investigation. The Riverside County Police Department’s Major Crimes Office – Forensic Services is assisting with the investigation.
