Variety confirmed that “Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk was taken to the hospital on Tuesday after having a meltdown on the set of the AMC show.

Odenkirk is currently in production on the sixth and final season of “Better Call Saul,” part of the hugely popular “Breaking Bad” series. Odenkirk collapsed on Tuesday at the show site in New Mexico and crew members immediately called an ambulance. Odenkirk is still receiving medical care, although the cause of the collapse has not been revealed.

Odenkirk, 58, portrays fraudulent attorney Saul Goodman in “Better Call Saul” and “Breaking Bad.” “Better Call Saul” highlights the character’s transformation from criminally inclined Jimmy McGill to criminal defense attorney Saul. Odenkirk’s work on “Better Call Saul” resulted in him being nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Television Series, and four Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Odenkirk recently starred in the action movie “Nobody”, which received generally positive reviews from critics and debuted at the top of the box office charts. During an interview with Variety about the film, Odenkirk discussed becoming a superstar for the role.

“I was in the amazing 87eleven gym, surrounded by the best actors in world training, including people like Keanu Reeves, Jason Statham and Halle Berry,” Odenkirk said. “I am a comic writer, and I am gradually struggling to make my way into this major. I was embarrassed about how bad I felt when these professionals were 25 feet away.”

The 13-episode final season of “Better Call Saul” is expected to air in early 2022.

Representatives for AMC, Sony Pictures Television and High Bridge Productions did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment. TMZ was the first to report the news of the accident.
