The Japan Meteorological Agency said the Japan Meteorological Agency was investigating whether there was a possibility of a tsunami in Japan.
New Zealand authorities also said they were assessing whether there was any danger to coastal areas.
The US NTWC said it is assessing the level of tsunami risk for other coastal areas of the US and Canada on the Pacific Ocean.
The quake occurred about 91 km east-southeast of Perryville, Alaska. It was about 800 kilometers (500 mi) from Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. This was followed by seven aftershocks, two of which are above magnitude 6.0, according to the USGS.
