Bang & Olufsen has launched its first pair of true wireless noise-cancelling earbuds

The Beoplay EQ by Bang & Olufsen is the first pair of true wireless noise-cancelling headphones from the Danish audio brand. Two microphones on each earbud handle noise-canceling duties along with an additional microphone for taking calls, for a total of six across the two earbuds. They will release globally on August 19 in black and gold.

At $399 (£359/€399), the Beoplay EQ was about $50 more expensive than B&O’s non-noise-canceling Beoplay E8 headphones at launch. It doesn’t feature the massive third-generation battery life of the E8, which comes in at 35 hours on a total charge from the earbuds and case combined. Alternatively, the Beoplay EQ can run for about 20 hours when used with the charging case. Battery life from the earbuds themselves is about the same, however, at about six and a half hours with the ANC on, or seven and a half hours with it off. Charges via USB-C or Qi wireless charging.

Rounding out the specs, Beoplay EQ supports Qualcomm’s adaptive AptX standard, which can make various adjustments to enhance wireless audio depending on your environment or the content you’re listening to. The earbuds also support AAC and SBC codecs, and there is an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.

Like all Bang & Olufsen devices, the Beoplay EQ isn’t exactly cheap. They’re $150 more expensive than Apple’s AirPods Pro and about $120 more than Sony’s WF-1000XM4 — our current pick for the best noise-cancelling earbuds available. But what else would you expect from a company whose Xbox headsets cost nearly as much as the console they were designed to be used with.
