DaBaby incites more anti-LGBTQ controversy with bizarre music video

Reaction to DaBaby’s sexist and homophobic statements escalated this week with the release of a music video that appeared to indicate the ongoing controversy.

On Wednesday afternoon, the rapper released the song “Give What You’re Meant To Give,” which he directed himself. At one point in the clip, he was holding a sign that said “AIDS,” while singing a song: “Bitch, we love AIDS, I’m in your ass, we’re in your ass, bitch, we’re not going away.”

The video concludes with a rainbow-colored message telling viewers, “Don’t fight hate with hate. My apologies for being the same way you want you to be.”

Reaction to the video was mixed.

“I think DaBaby may have beaten Cancel Culture,” one person wrote on Instagram. However, another tweeted: “I’m going to pass this on in a disrespectful way. You and your team should have thought twice about releasing this. Very disrespectful on so many levels. I encourage you to get the help you desperately need.”

Dababi, whose real name is Jonathan Lyndell Kirk, came under fire on Sunday after he made a series of degrading remarks to gay and HIV-positive women and men during a show at Rolling Loud Festival in Miami.

Footage of the performance captured by TMZ shows the rapper urging the crowd to raise their phones “If you don’t show up today with HIV/AIDS, or some other STD that will make you die in two to three weeks.”

Although DaBaby issued an official apology on Twitter on Tuesday, his comments were met with swift condemnation from Elton John, Dua Lipa and Demi Lovato, among other stars. Men’s fashion label boohooMAN announced on Wednesday that it has canceled its partnership with the rapper.

Although the release of “Give What It’s Supposed to Give” appears to be an auspicious timing, DaBaby said filming for the video wrapped up a day before its appearance at the Rolling Loud Festival.

“It never takes over [sic] To amaze me with the way God has put me in situations I am already prepared to deal with,” he wrote on Instagram.

However, it is unclear whether the closing statement of the video was added later.
