The aunt of two children, ages 7 and 5, who was found dead in the trunk of a car during a Wednesday traffic stop near Baltimore, had been walking around with their dead bodies for several months before she was arrested.
Nicole Johnson, 33, faces multiple counts, including negligence and first-degree child abuse resulting in the death of a child under the age of 13, for the deaths of Joshlyn Johnson, 7, and Larry Ou, 5. Neil, both siblings.
She was initially stopped at 11 p.m. by officers from the Essex area of the Baltimore County Police Department due to speeding. Fox affiliate WBFF-TV reported that the car carried fake West Virginia paper cards and was unregistered and uninsured.
While releasing a quote, Johnson allegedly told an officer, “Never mind, I won’t be here in five days,” and “You’ll see me all on the news, you’re all going to see me on the news making my big debut.”

The bodies of the children were found while the car was being prepared for towing. When Johnson went to the trunk of the car to collect her belongings, one of the officers smelled “a distinct smell of decomposition,” according to the news outlet.
When she removed a plastic sheet and a trash bag, the officer noticed worms in the bag and asked her to remove the blankets inside the bag, revealing a bag. In the luggage was the corpse of one of the children.

Johnson tried to run and was arrested a short time later. Authorities said the other child was found in a plastic bag.
According to court documents reported by the station, one of the children has been in the trunk of the car since May 2020.
“This was a truly devastating incident — it not only shocked our community to its core, but dramatically affected our patrol officers, forensic technicians and investigators,” said Melissa Hyatt, Baltimore County Sheriff of Police. “I am grateful that the horrific details of this case were so comprehensively and swiftly revealed, resulting in a swift closure of this tragedy. I would like to commend all the members of the Baltimore County Police Department who have worked tirelessly throughout this investigation to bring justice to these innocent, young victims.”
Investigators are still trying to determine how the children died.

Johnson told investigators that she got angry with one of the children in May 2020 and hit her several times, causing the child to fall and hit her in the head. Authorities said her body was placed in the bag.
She said the other child was injured two months ago and never recovered and died. The bodies were placed in the trunk of her car. At the time of their deaths, Jocelyn Johnson weighed 18 pounds and O’Neill weighed 21 pounds.
Nicole Johnson said her sister handed her children over to her because she couldn’t take care of them. Court documents said she moved with her children from Ohio to Maryland in July 2019.
“I will never be able to see my children because I made a mistake in trusting my sister, I wish I could get her back but I can’t,” the mother wrote in a Facebook post. “I was in the process of getting them back when she just disappeared. I still trust her and don’t want to think any worse. This is my sister by blood, she was my family.”
