US Disney parks will require their employees to be vaccinated

With the threat of a variable delta looming globally and the COVID-19 pandemic still going strong, Disney parks cannot risk making employees sick and causing illness, so The Walt Disney Company is now requiring American employees to be vaccinated in order to return to work.

“At The Walt Disney Company, the safety and well-being of our employees during the pandemic has been and remains a top priority. To that end, and based on the latest recommendations of our scientists, health officials, and medical professionals that the COVID-19 vaccine provides the best protection against severe infection, we are asking all employees who receive Salaried and non-unionised workers in the US At any of our locations are fully vaccinated.

Employees who are not already vaccinated and working on site will have 60 days from the day to complete their protocols and any employee still working from home will need to check their vaccination before returning, with some limited exceptions. We’ve also started talks about this with unions that represent our employees under collective bargaining agreements. In addition, all new employees will be required to fully vaccinate prior to commencing employment. Vaccines are the best tool we all have to help control this global pandemic and protect our employees.”

Disney has not yet determined whether this will eventually apply to park visitors. According to the Themed Entertainment Association, the average daily attendance at Disney World this year is 57,000 in the Magic Kingdom. 38000 in the animal kingdom; 34,000 at Epcot; and 31,000 at Hollywood studios. That’s a much smaller number than pre-COVID, but still a significant number of parks that are not fully operational. Since major studios like Netflix require employees to be vaccinated to work on productions, we also hope that Walt Disney Pictures will have the same mandates as those of the parks.
