Country music legend Dolly Parton shared her thoughts on the #FreeBritney movement on Thursday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
A fan asked Parton, 75, what she thought of the guardianship that has seen Britney Spears’ life and money controlled by her father Jimmy Spears over the past 13 years, from which the pop star is currently trying to remove herself.
Spears, 39, claimed in her explosive court testimony last month that the guardian saw her prescribed lithium medication against her will and refused her permission to remove her birth control.
“Well, I try not to get involved in other people’s business,” Barton said in response to the question. “I think she’s a great artist and I think she’s a great girl and I only wish her the best.”
“I understand all those crazy things,” she continued.
“I went through a lot of it myself through a big lawsuit in my early days with Porter and Wagner trying to come out on my own,” Parton recalls, referring to her legal battle with her ex-boyfriend after their split.
“So, I understand where it’s coming from and how you feel,” Barton said. “So, I hope everything turns out the way it should.”
