SAITAMA, JAPAN – Kevin Durant is now the top scorer for the men’s team in basketball history at the US Olympics.
Durant scored 3 points in the second quarter of Saturday night’s 119-84 victory over the Czech Republic to give him 337 points in his Olympic career, overtaking Carmelo Anthony.
Durant finished with 23 points in shooting 8 out of 11
Anthony scored 336 points in his four Olympics. Durant plays for the third time.
He was the Americans’ top scorer in both 2012 and 2016, scoring 30 points in the gold-medal game both times. He wasn’t off to a strong start in Japan but was up to 11 points in the middle of the second quarter.
Durant is still far from the top scorer in Olympic history. The Brazilian Oscar Schmidt scored 1093 points and the Australian Andrew Giese 789. Both appeared in five Olympic Games.
Spain’s Pau Gasol and Argentina’s Luis Scola are currently fifth and have third and fourth positions.
