Owings Mills, Md. — Baltimore Ravens have signed outside quarterback Justin Houston to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Shifter.

This is an important step for the Ravens, who have added the best passes available to address their team’s biggest gap. Houston, 32, is a four-time Pro Bowl defender who has scored at least eight sacks in each of the past four seasons.

Baltimore’s rush in passes was a major question mark after losing Matthew Godon and Yannick Njakwe at free agency. The Ravens drafted Odafe Oweh in the first round, but they didn’t have anyone on their current roster who had more than four sacks in 2020. Baltimore also had the fewest sacks in the NFL over the past two years when he wasn’t shining (26 )) ).

A source said Houston, 32, received offers from several teams but chose to sign with the Ravens because he believed they gave him the best chance of getting his first Super Bowl episode. He visited Baltimore in April, but the two sides weren’t able to agree on an appropriate price until three months later. The Ravens, which were limited by a maximum area ($8.8 million), have a history of spending more on high school than they do on fast lanes.

The Ravens also showed an interest in Houston in 2019 before he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in free agency. In 32 games with the Colts, Houston scored 19 sacks, 30 quarterbacks, 21 tackles for a loss, three forced tackles and three safety runs.

Houston joins the Ravens’ outdoor group that includes Ueh, Teos Bowser, Pernell McPhee, Jaylon Ferguson, Dylan Hayes, Chris Smith, and Aaron Odewe.
