Pigeon Forge, Tennessee – A wall of ice at the Titanic Museum in Tennessee has collapsed, injuring three guests, the museum’s owners say.
Mary Kellogg Jocelyn and John Jocelyn wrote on her Facebook page that the injured were taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
“Needless to say, we never expected an accident like this to happen because the safety of our guests and crew is always of the utmost importance,” the owners said.
The ship-shaped museum was closed after the collapse but reopened to those with tickets on Tuesday, according to a post. The owners said the affected area has been sealed off, and they estimate it will take at least four weeks to rebuild the glacier wall.
The Pigeon Forge Police Department said in a statement that the collapse appears to be accidental, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.
Cedar Bay Entertainment opened the attraction in 2010. The company owns another Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri.
Guests are given boarding passes containing the names of the actual passengers or crew members who were aboard the British passenger ship that sank in 1912 on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg.
Visitors can view more than 400 Titanic artifacts, shovel “coal” in the boiler room and feel the 28-degree water through self-guided tours, according to the attractions website.
