Harry’s luxury gifts for Meghan Markle – Diana’s jewelry and necklace that caused a royal quarrel

Meghan Markle celebrated her 40th birthday on August 4th, and we’re sure her loving family Prince Harry, Archie and Lillibet made this special occasion a memorable one.

The Duchess of Sussex spent her day in the US, where her relatives in the royal family have sent their best wishes from around the world.

Even though the couple will officially step down from the royal family in 2020, they’re still marrying a prince which means there’s likely to be some expensive and luxurious goodies out there.

The Mirror reports that over the years Harry has known Meghan, spraying a selection of gifts for her, as well as giving her some sentimental pieces, including jewelry that belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana.

Romantic Dates Gifts

Harry reportedly showered his actress girlfriend with romantic gifts during the early days of their relationship.

Among them was Cartier’s love bracelet, which she wore at many royal engagements.

He also reportedly spent thousands of dollars on a Van Donna painting Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.

When things started to get really serious, Harry gave Meghan a Maya Brenner necklace featuring the letters M and H.

She obviously loved the piece and was seen wearing it during days out of London, but the $300 14k gold chain ended up causing a rift with the King’s lieutenants and she ended up receiving an uncomfortable call from Kensington Palace.

In their autobiography Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Caroline Durand claim that an aide advised Meghan not to wear this type of jewelry, saying it would only encourage the press.

“She was advised that wearing such a necklace only encouraged photographers to follow such images – and new headlines,” they wrote.

They claim Meghan was upset about the call, saying she “didn’t say much” while talking on the phone”, and instead “chose instead to listen to the lawyer”.

They write: “But after hanging up, I was frustrated and emotional.

“While she knew the assistant had good intentions, the surreal experience of having someone from her boyfriend’s office tell her what kind of jewelry to wear or not to smile at a photographer was too much.”

They said she felt “amazed”, “damned if she did, and damned if she didn’t”.

Meghan reportedly discussed the incident with a friend, saying, “I can’t win. They pretend like I’m the one responsible for these photos, and I seem to encourage them, even acknowledging that the cameras might not be. Sending the right message.”

Engagement and eternity rings

Perhaps Harry’s most documented gift was the engagement ring he put on her finger when the question came up back in 2017.

He got on his knees while they were cooking dinner in their cottage in Kensington Palace, and presents a ring with three huge diamonds.

Two of the diamonds were from his mother Princess Diana’s collection and one from Botswana, where he does a lot of charity work.

The jewels were originally sitting on a plain gold band, but Meghan later changed this for a thinner, thinner microfiber band.

On their first wedding anniversary in May 2019, Harry gave Meghan another ring – the band of eternity.

The stunning piece is covered in diamonds, sitting next to her engagement and wedding rings.

A car inspired by their favorite movie

According to the Daily Star, Harry treated Meghan with a new car for her 36th birthday.

He reportedly spent £31,000 for a Mini Cooper, inspired by the 2003 movie The Italian Job.

A source told the newspaper: ‘Harry is convinced this is a great gift for Meg. She will be able to roam around London but remains somewhat anonymous.

“Harry says he’ll have to teach her how to use a gear lever. He has his advanced driving skills from his time in the army so he can teach her a thing or two. But whether his abilities are up to the standards of an Italian job remains to be seen.”

Diana aquamarine ring

As Meghan and Harry drove to the evening festivities on their wedding day, the new duchess showed off her latest gift from her husband.

She wore a stunning emerald ring from the late princess on her right hand.

Thought to be a wedding dress gift from Harry, he complimented her evening wedding dress perfectly.

For the special party, Meghan wore a bespoke lily white dress with a high neck, made of silk crepe and designed by Stella McCartney. Her shoes are by Aquazurra and are made of silky satin, with a bare mesh.

Archie photo framed

When Meghan turned 38, Harry chose a sentimental gift – a framed picture of baby Archie.

A source told The Sun: “This year there will be a birthday present from Archie and odds are a sepia or black and white photo of her precious son in a solid silver frame by Aspreys.

“The precious gift will likely have a engraving chosen by Harry which will make it very special.

“Harry has a weak point in jewelry design for Meghan, so the King is expected to design another amazing piece – possibly earrings – as a surprise to Sussex.”
