Aya Hashem: Seven men sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a student in a failed car assassination in Blackburn | UK news

Seven men have been sentenced to life in prison for up to 34 years for the murder of a law student who was wrongfully killed during a botched drive-by shooting.

Aya Hashem was said to have been in the “wrong place at the wrong time” when she was murdered in Blackburn, Lancashire, on May 17 last year.

She died in hospital after a bullet hit her left shoulder, passed through her body and ended up in a telegraph pole.

Firouz Suleiman, 40, had arranged for a rival tire shop owner to be executed, but the gunman shot Hashem with a second bullet.

The 19-year-old, whose family fled violence in Lebanon, was heading to a supermarket to buy food for her family for the Ramadan Iftar when she was injured.

The car being driven by Anthony Ennis, 31, and the killer Zamir Raja, 33, on board, had run past the Quickshine tires three times before the fatal fourth pass.

The first shot hit the front window of the shop, but the second shot hit Ms. Hashem.

CCTV captured Suleiman outside his building next door in RI tires with a “ring-side seat” of the shooting arranged to target Pasha Khan, who ran the Quickshine.

The accident was the culmination of a rivalry between Solomon and Mr. Khan, which began when Quickshine began selling tires, putting the two in direct competition.

On Thursday at Preston Crown Court, Solomon – who arranged the shooting – was sentenced to a minimum of 34 years in prison, as was the killer Raja.

The driver will serve Ennis for at least 33 years.

Partners Ayaz Hussain, 36; Abubakar Satya, 32; his brother Usman Satya, 29; Mansour, 26, revealed that they were sentenced to terms of no less than 32 years, 28 years, 28 years and 27 years, respectively.

Mansour had made sure the car was ready to drive as he started the car that Abubakar Satya had bought for just £300 a week ago.

Hussain, described as Suleiman’s “right hand,” acted as an intermediary with the gunman Raja.

Usman Satya and his girlfriend Jodi Chapman drove the Manchester assassins away from the scene.

The group has been sentenced after being convicted earlier this week of killing Hashim and attempting to kill Mr. Khan.

Chapman, 26, of Great Harwood, was found not guilty of murder and attempted murder but guilty of manslaughter.

Speaking after the convictions were handed down, her family said they “thanked God for the justice that has been served”.

They saluted the student, and said: “We are proud of you and miss you so much – our life is difficult without you.

“You loved life and despite all the struggles and barriers we faced in this country, that didn’t stop you from contributing to your community and charities including the Children’s Association and fundraising at the University of Salford where you were studying to become a lawyer.

“We love you.”
