Three more coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Northern Ireland on Thursday.

The death toll from the Ministry of Health has now reached 2,209.

These deaths are said to have occurred during the current reporting period.

Another 1,641 positive cases of Covid were also recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 162,152 since the beginning of the epidemic, according to the Ministry of Health.

Over the past seven days, the department said that 8,105 individuals in Northern Ireland had tested positive for test results.

According to figures released Thursday, there are currently 226 confirmed Covid-19 patients in hospital and 39 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the first doses of the Covid vaccine will be made available to people aged 16-17.

From Friday, regional vaccine centers across Northern Ireland will make Pfzier vaccines available to teens who want them, with an online booking platform set up in the next few days.

Proof of identity and proof of date of birth will be required when going to the regional immunization center or mobile punch vaccination clinic.

Health Minister Robin Swan said: “I welcome the latest advice from the JCVI and have asked my officials to ensure that it is fully implemented in Northern Ireland as quickly as possible.

“When formulating advice regarding child immunization, the JCVI has consistently emphasized that the main focus of its decision should be in the best interests of children and young people themselves, compared to any potential harms from vaccination for children and young people.

“JCVI is an independent panel of experts that has comprehensively evaluated a wide range of evidence. It is important that we continue to follow their advice.”
