Meghan Markle saw only 200 people publicly share her birthday post 24 hours after she allegedly made a plea to fans.

The Duchess of Sussex celebrated her 40th birthday with a social media post that included a poem and said she would like to share it as often as possible.

The former Hollywood star, who stepped down as a royal with her husband Prince Harry last year, also released a comedy video as part of the launch of a new initiative called 40×40.

The clip shows that Meghan, a mother of two, is asking celebrities including Adele and Stella McCartney, as well as the general public, to “help women return to the job market”.

A separate post on Archewell saw her asking fans to download and share the post – which included the hashtag #40×40 and #CompassionInAction – as a gift for her historic birthday.

It included a poem with the line: “For women who give everything, we give of our time. Are you into it?”

A suggested comment was made, which read: “To celebrate the Duchess of Sussex’s 40th birthday, I dedicate 40 minutes of mentorship or service to a cause that interests me.

However, according to an analysis by The Sun, a day after the video was posted, it was shared only 217 times.

This does not include Twitter posts or private posts on Instagram, or Stories that are already gone.

The Duchess explained the new initiative in a post.

He said, “In thinking about my fortieth birthday and the many things I am grateful for, it struck me that time is among our most important gifts.

“Time spent with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth.

“Also among the most valuable gifts of time is time spent serving others knowing that it can make for amazing change.

“Up until this last point, and with the fortieth lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder: What would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or guiding someone in need?

And she added in the video: “More than two million women in the United States and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid.

“I think if we all do that and see all of us commit to some kind of service, we can have some kind of ripple effect.”

Meghan has asked 40 activists, athletes, artists and world leaders to participate.

She added, “I think mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic power.

“At this time, I hope each of them will help someone advance their career on their own terms, and I hope they will inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.”
