Here’s your Aston Villa morning recap on Friday, August 6th.
Grealish sends an emotional parting message to Villa fans
Jack Grealish has sent an emotional message to Aston Villa fans after completing his £100m move to Manchester City.
Grealish has signed a six-year contract with the Premier League champions, who have paid the highest transfer fee by a British club.
Villa has offered the England international a bountiful new contract in a bid to persuade his captain to stay at his boyhood club.
But the playmaker officially ended his association with the FIA nearly 20 years ago.
Grealish posted a lengthy message on Instagram as soon as the deal was announced.
“Thank you for everything,” he said. “I have been at Aston Villa for 19 years and have been a fan of it all my life. I have risen through the ranks and brought my team back to the top flight of English football. It is impossible to put my feelings into words, but I will try.”

Villa won two ‘marquee’ deals in the final weeks of the transfer window
Danny Ings became Villa’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window on Wednesday in a £30m deal from Southampton.
Emiliano Buendia (£33m), Ashley Young (free) and Leon Bailey (£30m) have followed and former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny believes Villa will use the money raised by Grealish’s sale to sign two more signings.
“I don’t understand why he didn’t reinvest in the transfer market, maybe they both signed in a marquee,” Kenny told Football Insider.
They have owners who are in a healthy financial position. They might put those fees in their back pockets and go out and spend that money again.
“If you’re going to maybe bring in other players, it could really strengthen the team.
“They’ll want to go out and do a better job than they did last year, even if Grealish isn’t around.”
