Microsoft plans to integrate Spotify into the new Windows 11 feature. Panos Panay, head of Microsoft Windows and Hardware, teased Focus Sessions Windows 11 on Twitter this week, and it looks like it’s a new way to focus on tasks and work. Focus sessions include Spotify integration, allowing you to create a focus timer to work through tasks while listening to a Spotify music playlist.
Microsoft hasn’t started testing Focus sessions in its public versions of Windows 11 yet, but from the impressive video, it looks like Panay is built into the operating system’s Clock app. It appears to follow the pomodoro technique, a way of managing time by breaking down work into smaller parts with short breaks.
There are actually a variety of Pomodoro apps and websites that allow you to make time to focus on your to-do list. Microsoft Spotify integration may be the company’s way of standing out from the crowd.
It’s also the first time we’ve seen significant Spotify integration into Windows since Microsoft retired Groove Music in 2017. At the time, Microsoft partnered with Spotify to move Groove Music subscribers and their playlists to a competing music streaming service. Microsoft and Spotify have also previously worked together on a Windows 10 app and a separate app for Xbox consoles.
