The fourth season of Stranger Things launches in 2022, says Netflix in a new teaser

Well, it’s official – not that shocking. Netflix said Friday that the fourth season of Stranger Things, announced in 2019, won’t premiere until 2022. That’s not unexpected. When the last trailer came out, in May, the show was said to be still in production.

[Ed. note: Spoilers ahead for the end of Stranger Things, season 3.]

There’s not much new in this teaser, which replays the threat “Eleven, are you listening?” Close-up of May’s 1-minute trailer. Previous harassment alluded to the growth of the world outside of Hawkins, Indiana, and confirmed one big theory regarding Officer Jim Hooper (David Harbor).

Stranger Things was officially renewed for a fourth season at the end of September 2019. Shooting for the season reportedly began at the beginning of 2020, but that action has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming resumed in October, and a month later Netflix announced eight new characters—one played by Robert Englund. (Willie Visitors, from V: The Final Battle. Well, well, he also played Freddy Krueger.)

The third season of Stranger Things launched in July 2019, and it ended with Hopper sacrificing himself by walking the Upside Down. But post-credit excitement in Soviet Russia hinted that he is still alive, only in enemy hands. The first stills for the upcoming season – released in February 2020 – confirmed that he survived, although perhaps not in particularly good shape.
