Abramovich stuck to telling Messi Chelsea were talking but an ‘exciting’ deal is getting closer

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has ordered a transfer meeting over Lionel Messi’s future, but other reports claim he is close to signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

The future of the 34-year-old has proven to be a topic of debate for some time now, but especially since last summer. He only had a year left on his deal, but he decided to stay put. However, he has now officially left his childhood club in one of the most significant changes to the European football scene in recent times.

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, explained on Friday the poor financial situation of his club, which caused Messi to leave.

However, the focus quickly turned to the club he would choose to be only second in his career. Paris Saint-Germain emerged as the best front-runner.

AS, though, claims that Blues chief Abramovich wanted to stay in the loop about the Argentine’s future.

So he held a meeting with the player’s representatives. Indeed, he ‘knows’ that Premier League rivals Manchester City will struggle to sign Messi after spending £100m on Jack Grealish.

Meanwhile, Abramovich has fully focused on a similarly expensive move for Inter striker Romelu Lukaku. But he did not want to miss the opportunity of the possible move of the unique star.

But this opportunity is now lost. The Telegraph reports that the striker is close to an “exciting” move to PSG.

Talks about Messi began late Thursday night, shortly after Barcelona’s surprise exit was confirmed.

Paris Saint-Germain are planning to give the player a two-year contract, and further discussions with the player’s father, Jorge, will lead to the transfer being ended on Saturday.

The newspaper adds that Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar was pressing his club to bring the Argentine international to the French capital.

In other news, journalist Saber Desfarge claimed that several Paris Saint-Germain stars have been told that Messi will sign.

Pochettino breaks Messi’s silence

Asked about his club’s possible move to Messi on Friday, PSG boss Pochettino also tied the question for Kylian Mbappe’s future.

The striker faced a level of uncertainty about his future. In fact, he has entered the final year of his contract with no solution in sight.

However, Pochettino insisted that under no circumstances would Mbappe leave if Messi signed.
