Former Manchester City striker Darius Fasel believes he may increase his efforts to sign Harry Kane if Leicester are not defeated.
City’s new £10m Jack Grealish will be on the bench at Wembley for their Community Shield clash with FA Cup winners Leicester, but without any recognized top striker.
Gabriel Jesus is still away after playing in the Copa America, while Sergio Aguero has left the club. Ferran Torres is in the squad, but he has only had a few days of training and is unlikely to be fit. Youngsters Ben Knight, Sam Eduzzi and Cole Palmer played prominent roles in pre-season, but the start of the Community Shield will be another level in their young careers.
Former Leicester and City striker Vasile said Guardiola would be looking for some midfielders to repeat their promising “false nine” tactics from last season.
In an exclusive interview, he told MEN Sport: “In the past they tried the False Nine. Midfielders don’t play as a striker, they keep control and take turns. They did it a few times last season. They did it a few times last season. It wouldn’t be a concern. Big, but as a former striker, I always like to see City play with a dedicated striker at the top. I’m traditional in that sense.”

Vasil went so far as to anticipate that in the event of City’s defeat at Wembley, their lack of attacking options could prompt the club to intensify its efforts to sign a new striker, with Harry Kane his number one target.
He continued: “If City don’t get the result they want today, they might force them to do their best for that striker that people are talking about, perhaps Harry Kane. It will be interesting to see how the match turns out.
“Leicester have always had a chance against City. The way Leicester play, it’s difficult for City. Leicester are great at break and counterattack well. It’s all about the possession of City.
“I think City will win the game, but it will not be as comfortable as others expected given the players they have. I expect a 3-2 win over City, and I think there will be goals in the game.
“We may see some different teams and squads because of the Euros and new signings. Everyone needs time to sleep, but it’s always a fresh start to the season and it’s always good for people to watch these matches and prepare for the next season.
“Having those silver trophies is great for the players to know they have won a title before the season starts. At the same time from a team point of view, the coaches will give the players minutes they need to look at the different formations and things to try this season. Go back and install that winning mentality Because there is a cup at stake.”
Fassell was speaking as an ambassador for the FA & McDonald’s World Football Awards, in recognition of the volunteers, clubs and leagues across England who dedicate their time to grassroots football in their local community.

“It’s where I started, so it’s nice to be back to celebrate guys who are doing well,” he explained.
“You look back at your career and you can never forget the grassroots and how it puts you in good standing. You live your dream, you share it with everyone, and you learn life skills. A lot of our fellow professionals have kids now and that’s where they will enjoy the game, so from It is important to get to know them and help them grow.
“McDonald’s has been partnering for a while with the Football Association, and the goal is to make sure that the grassroots is recognized and that we share the enjoyment of football together. It’s not just an elitist position that England is on its own and the grassroots support it. We own it, we’re trying to join it together. You realize England always has the grassroots and encourages them to play to the best of their abilities and grow the game. I’ve seen disabled football, women’s football booming, it all goes hand in hand. People who play football the more they thrive and the England squad will be bigger in the future.”
