Love Island’s Fai announces that she’s “done” with Teddy

ITV has responded after a backlash on social media towards Love Island for broadcasting “uncomfortable” scenes between Faye Winter and Teddy Soares.

On the Friday night show, Faye launched into a thorny speech to her partner Teddy over his comments on Casa Amor, which she hadn’t just seen after watching the Movie Night Challenge to Producers clips from the show earlier in the series. The viewer saw her putting an end to their romance.

Across the episode, Faye explicitly criticized Jake Cornish for “inflating” the boys for courting girls at Casa Amor, while later clashing with Dale Muhammad after he tried to calm the situation.

In the aftermath of the episode, fans flocked to social media to complain about the scenes, and many questioned why the show would allow the viewer to appear and be shown on TV.

The well-being of both Teddy and Faye has been a concern for viewers of the show on social media.

One of those complainants wrote: “Film Ofcom’s complaint about #LoveIsland tonight because I should have done it last week. It’s unethical to allow what happened in tonight’s episode to go ahead without interference, and you don’t care to air it as entertainment.”

Now, an ITV spokesperson commented to The Mirror in a statement: “The well-being and duty of care to our shareholders has always been our primary concern, and we take the emotional well-being of all islanders very seriously.”

They continued, “We have dedicated care and psychological support producers on hand at all times who monitor and regularly speak to all islanders in private and off-camera, especially if someone appears to be upset.

“So all island residents are fully supported by the on-site professionals and their in-villa friends.”

They concluded: “Islanders can always reach out and talk to someone if they feel the need.”

The statement comes after the show announced earlier this year that strict new measures were in place to protect contestants’ mental health during and after their reality show run.

Teddy Soares’ social media page thanked fans for their support and admitted that the episode was “hard to watch.”

After the Friday show ended, Faye’s loved ones had yet to comment on social media, while Teddy’s loved ones wrote on Instagram, “Tonight was tough to watch. Here’s my appreciation post for Teddy! Thanks for all the love.”

*Love Island continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub, with previous episodes available on ITV Hub and added to BritBox the next morning.
