Ronald Koeman, the former Everton manager, has praised outgoing Barcelona striker Lionel Messi.
It’s been a turbulent 12 months in coaching the La Liga side for Koeman, who has had to deal with a number of issues since his appointment in August 2020.
The latest issue fixed could prove to be Mission Impossible as Messi’s exit from the club was confirmed on Thursday afternoon.
Messi’s departure came as a huge shock to Barcelona’s supporters, who were devastated by the club’s decision.

Messages of support from his former teammates echoed the 34-year-old, and Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez were among those who thanked the Argentine for his major contributions.
Koeman is the last individual to send Messi a message, choosing his “worthwhile ethics” and “desire to win” as his outstanding characteristics.
“It’s still hard to understand that you won’t play more at FCBarcelona.
“Thank you for everything you have given Leo Club. I have really enjoyed the season we worked together.

“This makes you the best player in the world. I wish you and your family all the best! #ForçaBarça.”
Messi came close to leaving Camp Nou in the summer transfer window last year, despite staying in the 2020/21 season.

Despite ongoing issues off the pitch for the La Liga side, Koeman urged Messi to stay at Barcelona when the situation is addressed in March.
“Messi must decide his future, no one can help him with that,” the 58-year-old told Mundo Deportivo.
“He’s seen for a long time now that the team is going in the right direction. With the changes we’ve made and the guys who are only going to get better, he can’t have doubts about the future of this team.”
