A drunk driver said he was “terrified” by his actions – before flipping his middle finger as he walked out of court.

Tattoo artist Scott Rowe crashed his Mercedes CLA220 into an oncoming car after he was “bored” of traveling behind a car adhering to the 30 mph speed limit.

Roe, who has been convicted of drunk driving twice before, was unharmed, but the same cannot be said of his victims.

Chelsea Sedwill, 19, and mother Kelly Meredo, 39, were trapped in the wreckage for two hours after the plane crashed in Bedworth, Warwickshire, on July 13 last year.

Chelsea fractured her left knee, ankle and toes, as well as a ligament injury, which left her in a wheelchair for seven weeks.

Her mother had a pelvic tear, a dislocated right knee, and severe bruising to the shoulder.

Roe, of Coventry, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol at Warwick Crown Court.

Prosecutor Sally Kearns said he attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver when “it was late and it was raining” while doing “at least 60 mph”.

She told the court: ‘Roe was not pulled in and crushed head-on in an Audi that turned 180 degrees.

The hood of the Audi, which ended up on the edge of the lawn, was crushed, and Miss Sedwill and her mother fell inside.

“Emergency services attended and found Miss Sedwill and Mrs. Meredo trapped and in excruciating pain, and Miss Sedwill remained trapped for two hours before being released and taken to hospital.”

His 19-year-old victim was forced to quit her job of working with children as a result of her injuries.

Roe was taken to hospital where his blood test showed he was over the limit, later telling the police he was ‘bored of waiting’, he tried to make a dangerous move but lost control.

His attorney, Andrew Wilkins, said a “chain” of things went wrong after his decision to get behind the wheel after drinking, but said his client was “terrified by the consequences of the action.”

Despite this, the 39-year-old was filmed extending his middle finger as he walked out of court without an immediate prison sentence.

Recorder Francesca Levitt said Friday that his actions were “extremely dangerous” and that “there is no doubt that your judgment was clouded by the amount of alcohol you ingested”.

“What followed was a consequence of your decision to overtake when it was clearly dangerous to do so, and the injuries to Miss Sedwill and her mother were very serious,” she added.

But it concluded that his prison term could be suspended, meaning Roe was able to walk away from court that day.

He was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work.

Roe was also required to pay £535 in court costs and banned from driving for four years.
