Met office gives exact dates for ‘potential heat wave’ for August

Manchester was hit by rainstorms and flooding this weekend – but there’s better news for the month ahead with the latest forecast for a heatwave from the Met Office.

Forecasters say temperatures could rise ‘above average’ at the end of August across the UK, and the weather will generally improve for the next week here in Manchester.

He raised hopes that the rest of summer might bring some decent weather, just in time for the August weekend.

In the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest long-range forecast, it’s the two weeks from Sunday August 22 to Sunday September 5 that will catch the eye of sun seekers.

“Although confidence is very low during this period, there is likely to be a general trend towards more stable conditions,” she says.

“Very unstable and changing conditions are likely to remain in place at the beginning of the period, as these conditions look to give way to more stable and drier conditions by the end.

“Temperatures are likely to be above average, with temperatures likely to rise later in the month.”

It has raised hopes that the August 2021 weekend, which runs from August 27-30, could be hot.

Bryn Gees, a weather forecaster, added that an “extremely hot pattern” could emerge across the UK in the coming weeks – but cautioned that it remains uncertain.

He wrote on Twitter: “Europe is setting a potentially very hot pattern towards the end of the 10-day race.

“The first half [of August] It will see a mix of rain or longer periods of rain but also warm, cool spells.

“The weather is likely to be drier in the south and east, but the increased risk of heavy rain or thunderstorms means that local differences can be significant.”

Meanwhile, the BBC said a heat wave could be developing, but again said it was too early to tell.

In its latest update, which covers August 16-29, it says: “As high pressure slowly pushes north from the Mediterranean, low pressure systems trapped in the storm path and driven by the jet stream will also veer north.
