Arsenal fell to a defeat away to Tottenham in the pre-season final as Heung-min Son’s second-half goal secured the Mind Series and the north London derby went to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Mikel Arteta opted to make changes from the defeat to Chelsea, and some were imposed, with Ben White getting his first start in the Arsenal shirt since his £50m move from Brighton. Bukayo Saka was also fit on the bench and there was no place in the team for Lulian or Joe Willock.
In midfield there was also a start for Albert Sambi Lukonga, who partnered with Granit Xhaka, a duo most fans hope will be the one who starts the Premier League season away from Brentford on Friday.
The hosts started the strongest side and forced a few tough moments in the Arsenal defence. Bellerin looked out of position with Marie and some alarm bells began to ring, only for the visitors to stabilize themselves and take control of the match.

Alexandre Lacazette came close to breaking the deadlock when his fierce effort from outside the box beat Hugo Lloris, but not the woodwork. The best chance, however, fell to Dele Alli when he somehow rejected a massive opportunity from near six yards, an opportunity he also fired against the post.
Arsenal’s dominance of the first half did not transfer to the second in a relationship that was visibly less organized and chaotic. Tottenham almost penalized Arsenal 30 minutes before the end of the match when Alli hit the post again, this time only from Davinson Sanchez’s strike.
Changing the format to a triple at the back saw Arsenal gain more control of the action with Saka arriving to add some energy on the left, although there were no clear chances as a result.
However, it was Spurs who took the lead as some disastrous defense from Mari – who was oddly trying to slip off – led to Heung-min Son’s shot past Bernd Leno inside the penalty area. Smith Rowe came close late in the game, but Son’s goal secured two consecutive defeats against his London rivals.
Not perfect. This may be in pre-season but the loss to Tottenham is not easily forgotten.

Arsenal goalkeeper and defender ratings
Bernd Leno (Goalkeeper) – 7/10 – He made a good save in the first half stopping hearts in his mouth, but it turns out it was just zigzagging.
It looked fairly solid, which comes with the caveat that not many tests have been done on it. Passing was decent.
Hector Bellerin (Right Back) – 5/10 – A few very elusive moments in the first few minutes but he started to calm down more as the match went on.
Some of his positions when Tottenham were third for Arsenal were suspicious and were often caught. He needs a fresh start this summer.
Ben White (CDF) – 8/10 – It looked fairly easy for White on his debut for Arsenal. Aerially, he was well positioned and, off the ball, pushed the opposing runners into the right areas and on the ball showed a few of his hallmarks to the center line.
More of that, please. If we were looking for very early ready meals, then £50m was a bargain.
Pablo Mari (CDF) – 4/10 – Some unwanted positions when Tottenham were in and around Arsenal’s penalty area. As we saw against Chelsea, he also struggles with adopting a top-ranking streak from Arsenal, falling behind and making mistakes in pressing a lot.
Confusing defense of the Tottenham goal. Need Gabriel back.
Kieran Tierney (Left-Back) – 6/10 – He’s beaten on his mark on a few occasions and whipped up on a few delicious deliveries but the team play with Aubameyang hasn’t been as effective as hoped and works better in situations where Arsenal sees less. from the ball.
