Thomas Tuchel tells Chelsea the transfer deal the Blues need after securing Romelu Lukaku deal

[ad_1]

Chelsea have been urged to make a move for long-term transfer target Declan Rice this summer, after finalizing a Romelu Lukaku deal.

The Blues are close to a £98m deal to bring Belgium striker Lukaku back to west London, with the Inter Milan striker expected to return to Stamford Bridge, seven years after leaving Chelsea.

This will be an important signing for Thomas Tuchel and Blues as they look to bridge the gap domestically with Premier League champions Manchester City, whom Chelsea beat in the UEFA Champions League final.

But former Blues defender Glenn Johnson has urged his old team not to stop there, adding that he feels there is another big deal Chelsea need to try to boost their chances of winning the Premier League.

That is the long-term goal of Rice, who has been linked with a return to Chelsea in the recent transfer window, having impressed Post Ham after leaving the Blues academy.

Asked if Chelsea should try to sign Rice from West Ham, Johnson told BettingOdds.com: “I think they can handle him because of the legs.

“He has a lot of energy, he drives a lot and he is very motivated so I think he will be a good fit for the club.

“As long as he is leaving West Ham on good terms, they will still love him. I left West Ham on the right terms and my relationship with the Hammers fans is very good.

“I think he would fit in with the current Chelsea squad. Imagine his legs and N’Golo Kante! I would definitely like to see that.”

football.london understands that West Ham have no intention of selling Rice this summer, as the midfielder proved to be a vital player for them last season as the Hammers ensured European football through the Premier League.

Rice, who impressed for England at Euro 2020 with the Three Lions reaching the final, is valued at more than £80m by the Hammers.
