Liverpool fans make Harvey Elliott demand after Athletic Bilbao performance

Harvey Elliott put in a fantastic display at Anfield against Athletic Bilbao – leading some Liverpool fans to ask the same question.

After a final test, of sorts, to impress Jurgen Klopp before the start of the new season, the 18-year-old passed the test with flying colors.

The teenager played with equanimity beyond his years, alongside Naby Keita, with the duo potentially vying for a midfield position vacated by Jenny Wijnaldum.

Although both played well in front of the nearby Anfield crowd, it was Elliott who stole the headlines, leading some Liverpool fans to ask the same question on social media – with a focus on the Fantasy Premier League teams!

Not surprisingly, Elliott is not yet considered part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad by outside observers.

There has been initial debate over whether the former Fulham player will be sent on another loan spell this season, after his excellent campaign with Blackburn last year.

Playing as a right winger in the tournament, it was believed that Elliott faced the frightening prospect of trying to send off Mohamed Salah and rise above Xherdan Shaqiri in the Reds’ standings.

However, Klopp surprised fans by choosing to use Elliott in a more central role this summer, as the midfielder rewarded the German coach with a man-of-the-match candidate performance.

That means Elliott has quickly risen to become a real contender on the midfield, ahead of Liverpool’s opening Premier League game against Norwich next week.

With more and more unofficial Reds watchers still unaware of Elliott’s potential place within the squad, it’s no surprise that fans look forward to drawing on their inside knowledge.
