Nuno insists Harry Kane could play for Tottenham against Manchester City in Tottenham Hotspur’s opening match

Nuno Espirito Santo has raised the possibility of Harry Kane joining Tottenham’s squad to face Manchester City on Sunday, despite the England captain’s return to pre-season has been delayed.

The club had been expecting Kane to return last Monday only to continue his vacation in the Bahamas and Florida, two of the tourist destinations on Amber’s list.

The striker, bent on getting stronger by moving to City, reported on Saturday that he is isolating and working alone at The Lodge – the hotel facility at Tottenham’s training ground.

Kane is expected to return to training with the rest of the squad on Thursday, provided he passes the necessary Covid tests.

“All the players in the squad are available so it’s up to us to decide who we consider the best options,” Nuno told Sky Sports. The manager was asked if that included Ken. “All the players on the team who work every day will be options for us,” he said. “Then it is up to us to make the decision.”

City offered a £100m deal to Kane only for Spurs to insist he was not for sale. For them to change that position, the defending champions will have to go for at least £150m – a figure they have indicated they will not reach.

City completed a £100m deal with Jack Grealish from Aston Villa last Thursday and after one training session with them on Friday the England midfielder appeared as a 65th-minute substitute in the Community Shield on Saturday, who lost 1-0 to Leicester. Grealish had reported training at Villa last Monday after a break after Euro 2020.

Nuno kept a fuzzy front on Kane when asked if he was disappointed with the player’s absence until Saturday.

“It’s not about that,” he said. It comes down to what we need to do to resolve the situation.

“This is important. We have to solve it together, everyone involved has to solve it together.”
