A lawsuit has been filed in the United States accusing Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting Virginia Joffrey, according to one of her lawyers.
Geoffrey says she was the victim of financier and convicted pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
She claims that she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17, but he has always categorically denied any contact or sexual relations with her.
Giuffre’s attorney, David Boyce, confirmed to Sky News that a lawsuit was filed on Monday afternoon in federal court in Manhattan.
She alleges that the prince abused Ms. Joffrey on three occasions when she was under 18, nearly two decades ago.
She once claimed that she was forced to have sex with Andrew against her will at Ghislaine Maxwell’s home in London.
On another occasion, he sexually assaulted Ms. Joffrey at Epstein’s mansion in New York, the lawsuit alleges, as well as on a private island owned by Epstein.
Prince Andrew’s representatives said they had no comment on recent developments.
“In our country, no person, whether president or prince, is above the law, and no person, however weak or frail, can be denied the protection of the law,” Mr. Boyes said.

“For the past five years, Prince Andrew and his advisers have stopped every attempt to resolve this matter without litigation. It has been a long time since he has been held accountable.”
Ms. Joffrey said in a statement that the lawsuit was filed under the Child Victims Act alleging that she was trafficked and sexually abused by him.
“I hold Prince Andrew to account for what he did to me,” she said.
“The powerful and the rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions.
“I hope other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but to reclaim one’s life by speaking out and demanding justice.
“I did not take this decision lightly,” she added.
“As a mother and wife, my family comes first – and I know that this measure will expose me to further attacks by Prince Andrew and his agents – but I knew that if I did not follow through with this measure, I would allow them and the victims everywhere.”
In an interview with BBC Newsnight in 2019, Prince Andrew said he had never had sex with Ms Joffrey, saying: “I can tell you categorically that this never happened.”
The Duke said he “never remembers” meeting her and that there are “a number of things wrong” in her account.
He also suggested that a photo showing him with his arm around Ms. Giuffre may have been manipulated.
Epstein, 66, committed suicide in prison in August 2019, a month after he was arrested for sex trafficking.
Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in an FBI raid last July and has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges in the United States.
Facing trial in November.
