Matt Chucky Thompson: The producer gave one of his last interviews

Chucky Thompson passed away at the age of 53.

The popular hip-hop producer has died after a battle with Covid, according to AllHipHop.com.

Some of the biggest names in music have taken to social media to pay homage to Chucky after news of his sad death spread.

Rapper Diddy wrote, “I was in shock most of the day. Not only was Chucky Thompson someone who made Mary J Blige’s life and part of the legendary killers, he was also one of the greatest humans I’ve ever met.”

Mary added in her own post: “Chucky and I were and always will be a musical match made in heaven. He knew everything I was feeling personally and when we worked on the ‘My Life’ and ‘Mary’ albums. He was an angel sent to help me weather the storm.”

Chucky was a popular producer of American hip-hop, and was known for being a member of Bad Boy Entertainment’s “Hitmen” team of in-house producers during the 1990s.

He’s behind some huge hits that people will remember, like The Notorious BIG’s Big Poppa, Faith Evans’ You Used To Love Me and Nas’ Track One Mic.

Chucky has regularly worked with the likes of Diddy, Busta Rhymes and TLC, pumping out a string of hit songs.

Looking back on his career, he once told the Recording Academy, “It was my first real Bad Boy session with [producer] Easy mo bee. Puff asked if I wanted to go to the studio and hang out with him.

“I’ve never met him or anything else. I came to the session; he had a guitar there, and I just started playing with what Easy Mo Bee was doing. He heard it and immediately wanted to record it. That became the guitar parts on Ready to Die. That was always her energy “.

Chucky has worked with Diddy recently, producing tracks for his upcoming album Off The Grid Volume 1, which is due to be released on September 24.

It will be Diddy’s first album in 11 years.

After news of his death, Chucky fans took to his Instagram page to share the salute.

Someone coined “A true legend…Rest well”.

While another wrote: “RIP to a great, creative producer who created a lot of soundtracks in the ’90s”
