Neighbors said the house where human remains and several urns were found had been empty for “years”.

Human remains were discovered in a jar in a home in Wordsworth Street, Tuxtthe on Monday.

ECHO understands that the discovery was made by a dealer from a construction company, which is currently renovating the empty property after its recent sale.

Before work began, the street residents said the house had been empty for “a number of years” after its previous occupant had left.

“The house was a sore eye and had been empty for several years after the man who lived there fell ill and was taken to a shelter or nurse,” someone who has lived down the street for more than 20 years told Home.

“The garden was completely overgrown. When I put the laundry on my line, I could see the garden and there was grass that grew to the height of the lamppost.

In a statement, Merseyside Police told the European Office of Humanitarian Aid: “At approximately 12.10pm yesterday (Monday 9 August), we received a report of suspicious circumstances at an unoccupied address in Wordsworth Street, Toxteth.

“Officers attended and found an urn containing human remains kept on the property.

“Police remain on Wordsworth Street today (Tuesday, August 10), while extensive investigations are being conducted to determine the source and age of the remains.”

According to a woman who lives on the street, the property was recently sold and the contractors working in the house were disposing of wreckage on a daily basis.

They said, “They stuck it inside and put it back in the bones because it needed to be completely reshaped.

“They must have already gotten rid of about eight or nine skips by yesterday when they found out everything.

“I was happy when I saw the work in progress because although it would make the row of houses look so much better.

Now it’s all a little bit ‘stranger things’.

A major police scene remained on the property today, August 10, until the afternoon, with officers and sniffer dogs present.

Police were seen searching the front and back garden of the house and wading into a shelter outside the house.

Another person said he “would not sleep peacefully” until he heard more about how long the human had been there.

They said, “It is terrifying that they found a poor little soul, but it also makes you think if someone is about to do something elusive because it is already happening.

“We all have a lot of questions and I personally won’t rest easy until we find out more about where they come from and how long they’ve been there.”

Another neighbor said the street had been dumbfounded since the police started investigating the many people driving next to them to find out what was going on.

They said, “It’s a beautiful street, so it’s really out of the ordinary.”
