A four-year-old boy was attacked by a large pitbull outside a Sainsbury’s supermarket in front of terrified onlookers.
The child was attacked just outside a Wolverhampton store just before 11:30 am on August 11.
Terrified witnesses told how the boy ran past the dog toward his father outside the store’s entrance when the animal suddenly lunged at him, according to the Mirror.
A supermarket worker who witnessed the attack outside the store claimed that the dog belonged to a homeless gentleman who often sat outside the main entrance.
However, the man told reporters who attended the scene that his 11-month-old pet Donnie had given the boy a “grazing”.

The boy was taken to hospital for treatment, but West Midlands Police said his injuries were not believed to be life-changing.
A supermarket worker said: There is a homeless man who always sits next to the supermarket with his dog. He just went to the kid as he ran.
There were two police cars, a paramedic and an ambulance here.
“It looked bad. He was just a little boy and the dog was much bigger than him.
“He was bitten on his upper leg from what I understand.”
But the owner of the dog, who remained sitting outside the supermarket, denied that the animal had bitten the little one.
He insisted his dog Donnie “never misbehave.”

He said, ‘The kid came running and startled Donnie. Donnie jumped up and flopped. It wasn’t a bite – it’s grazing.’
“The police got my dog. They said I would return him in two weeks if he behaved himself.
“I couldn’t be more apologetic.”
Sergeant Robert Pritchard, of Wolverhampton Police, said: “The child has been taken to hospital for treatment but his physical injuries are not believed to be life-changing and we wish him well in a speedy recovery.
“He must have been very afraid.

“The dog, believed to be an American Bully XL, was seized by officers at the scene and is now being cared for in our kennels.
“His bloodline will be confirmed as part of our investigation.
“We have the owner’s details and have already spoken to him. We will be in regular contact with them and the boy’s family.”
The American bully breed is divided into four classes – pocket, standard, classic, and XL.
The largest of them are heavy muscles and weigh up to 8.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had been called to report a dog bite.
A spokesman for paramedics said paramedics treated a boy for injuries he did not believe were serious before taking him to hospital for further treatment.
