The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said “No one is above the law” when asked about the allegations of sexual assault on Prince Andrew.

Ms. Cressida Dick said a review of the case was ongoing but that there was no investigation.

“As a result of what’s going on, I asked my team to take another look at the material,” she told LBC.

It comes after a lawsuit was filed in the US accusing Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting Virginia Joffrey, according to one of her lawyers.

Geoffrey says she was the victim of financier and convicted pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“The position there is that we have more than one allegation relating to Mr. Epstein and we have reviewed and evaluated them and have not opened an investigation,” Dame Cressida said on Thursday.

She explained that the police force is asking “Is there evidence of a crime, is this the correct jurisdiction to deal with it and is the person accused of committing the crime still alive?”

“We have concluded that there is no investigation for us to open and we have not,” she said, adding that this was the “right decision”, after taking advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.

“I am aware that there are currently a lot of comments in the media and it appears that a civil court case is underway in America and we will review our position again,” she said.

Giuffre’s attorney, David Boyce, told Sky News on Monday that the duke should answer questions.

“The court proceedings now will compel him. If he tries to ignore the court the way he ignored us, there will be a default judgment against them,” he said.

“It could be applied in the US, in England or anywhere else in the world. So I don’t think it would ignore the court.

As a result, he will be held accountable.”

In an interview with BBC Newsnight in 2019, Prince Andrew said he had never had sex with Ms Joffrey, saying: “I can tell you categorically that this never happened.”

The Duke said he “never remembers” meeting her and that there are “a number of things wrong” in her account.

He also suggested that a photo showing him with his arm around Ms. Giuffre may have been manipulated.
