The Athletics Safety Unit has revealed that Chijindu Ujah, the British sprinter who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics as part of the GB Men’s Team 4x100m relay, has been suspended for a doping violation.

Uga is one of four athletes who tested positive for a banned substance at games, and were named by the AIU on Thursday. According to AIU, Ujah has tested positive for S23, a SARM (selective androgen receptor modulator) that helps build muscle and Ostarine, another SARM that is not a steroid but an anabolic agent.

The 27-year-old now faces the possibility of being stripped of his medal. That may also be the case for his teammates in Tokyo, Nathaniel Mitchell Blake, Richard Kelly and Zrenelle Hughes. There are no suggestions that any of these three have tested positive for a banned substance.

The other three athletes suspended are Moroccan 1500m runner Sadeq Mikho, Georgian Benic Abramian and Kenyan runner Marc Otiano Odiambo.

The AIU said it worked closely with the International Testing Agency during the Games and provided intelligence to conduct a specific target test on two of the four athletes.

“The AIU is now awaiting the conclusion of the ITA’s actions against the aforementioned athletes, which will determine whether any anti-doping rule violations have been committed and what the consequences may be. [if any] It should be imposed in connection with the Olympic Games.”
